Schedule Figure 8 School Bus Races and They Will Come
Monday, June 29, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

citrus bus race
Figure 8 School Bus racers in action at Citrus County Speedway Saturday night.

(Inverness, Fl. June 27) Despite some very threatening weather, the drivers and the fans made their way to Citrus County Speedway for the second appearance of the year for the Figure 8 School Bus races and a rained out Street Stock make up race plus four regular division races for the point championship and a special new introduction for the 4 Cylinder Streets in their first Figure 8 race. Fortunately Mother Nature was feeling accommodating and the races went off without a hitch and plenty of action in all divisions.
Citrus County Speedway will take the weekend off on July 4th in deference to the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona. Two fans won pairs of tickets to that race Saturday on a ticket draw courtesy of Todo Frampton and Coca Cola. The speedway goes back into regular action on Saturday July 11th with the Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Curry Roofing Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, V8 Thunder Stocks and the Mike Scott Plumbing 4 Cylinder Streets, plus the Fantastic Super Modified Figure 8’s and the American Mini Cup Series. Have a great 4th of July.

Welcome Back, T-Mac: McCreadie Scores Emotional Victory In Front Of Partisan Crowd Tuesday Night At Canandaigua Speedway
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

CANANDAIGUA, NY - June 23, 2009 - Tim McCreadie is back.
The sensational driver from Watertown, N.Y., quickly validated his return from a back injury that had sidelined him since January, winning Tuesday night's 40-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Great Northern Tour' A-Main at Canandaigua Speedway.
It was an emotional triumph for McCreadie, who thrilled the partisan crowd that packed the stands of the half-mile oval he called home during much of his DIRTcar big-block Modified career. The 2006 WoO LMS champion was swamped in Victory Lane by a horde of happy well-wishers, including his father, legendary DIRTcar big-block Modified driver ‘Barefoot' Bob McCreadie.

"Will Cagle" Cayuga County Accomplishments Covered In All-Star Weekend Countdown!
Tuesday, June 23, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Weedsport, NY – June 23, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director ...With 24 days to go before the curtain is raised for All-Star Weekend in Weedsport, it is certainly appropriate to highlight the number 24 --- one of the most familiar in the storied history of Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Adorning his rides on the way to the winner’s circle a track-record 84 times, the trademark no. 24 of ‘Wiley’ Will Cagle became a weekly fixture that the opposition would never forget. Streaking under his first checkered flag at The Port in 1971, Cagle was in total command of the extra-distance shows staged at the fairgrounds, copping six of the first seven 150-lap Northeast Championships on the legendary 3/8-mile layout. In 1973, he was tabbed as the ‘Tampa Terror’ after closing the season with 12 straight feature wins to compile an unprecedented total of 17 triumphs in 21 main events; including a third successive NE Championship that shelled out a whopping $2,000 to the victor. 15 wins in 22 features along with another 150-lap title run the following season kept the boobirds flocking to the speedway and Cagle flying even higher in his feast on the Northeast.

RaymondLovelady.

Raymond Lovelady takes his second win at Auburndale in as many races. The #07 of Jeff Scofield was second, with the #10 of Steve Dorer finishing third.
I’m very happy we were able to stay out front those last few laps, anytime you can beat guys like Scofield, and Steve Dorer you know you did something right Lovelady stated in victory lane.
The late models will return to Auburndale the 18Th of July. Who knows, maybe Raymond can go three in a row?? Mark your calendar; you will not want to miss this one.

Monday, June 22, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Anderson, IN ..(June 20,2009)..Florida’s Troy DeCaire took advantage of the inversion following qualifying to lead all 30 laps to capture the HOSS winged sprint feature at Anderson Speedway on Saturday.
The invert of the top 8 qualifiers but DeCaire on the outside of the front row and he was chased for the entire 30 laps by Tim Cox. The driver on the move was fast qualifier Jimmy McCune who drove to a third place finish followed by Eddie Kelly and Chris Neuenschwander.
The race was slowed with six laps remaining for debris on the track but DeCaire said it actually helped the performance of his Mike Blake owned sprint car.
“The car was getting tight,” DeCaire. “I was hoping we would get a caution a little earlier to cool down the tires.”
Heat winners in the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series were fast qualifier McCune, Cox and getting his first win ever Neuenschwander. In the third heat Brandon Whited was blocked several times by San Davis while the two were battling for the second position. On the fourth lap Davis and Whited touched wheels with Whited making contact with the outside retaining wall.

Cobb Conquers East Bay Late Models
Sunday, June 21, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Gibsonton,Fl...( June 20,2009)... The fans were on their feet as the 25-lap South Shore Auto Sales Late Model feature hustled to its conclusion. Phillip Cobb and Jeff Mathews engaged in a doorslamming side by side battle for the lead that saw Cobb edge point leader Mathews, picking up his first win of 2009.
Cobb had started the event in front, but lapped traffic stymied his effort for a wire to wire run. The backmarker forced Cobb to check up, opening a lane for two-time feature winner Josh Peacock. The new leader kept it for one circuit before Cobb hunched back over the wheel to snatch the top spot. He was in command until Mathews came calling and the sparks were flying as these two dueled to the finish. Peacock watched from third with Devin Dixon moving from 18th to fourth at the finish. Ted Erskine, who stayed in the top five for the entire race, was fifth. Cobb revealed that his car had been damaged on Friday night and the crew worked all day to make the East Bay show. Heats were won by Cobb, Jim Coursen and Steve Miller.

Ivedent Lloyd Takes the Powell Memorial at Ocala Speedway
Saturday, June 20, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

ZUBER, FL- ( June19,2009)... After nature had washed out the original date for the 14th Annual Powell Memorial, no one was sure who might show up to watch the most prestigious dirt late model race in Florida. Changed plans often means that some may not be able to switch to a new date, and yet over four thousand excited fans filled the grandstands at the historic Ocala Speedway and witnessed yet another memorable performance by the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series. In addition, Ocala Speedway's own Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks turned out in force, and were joined by a solid group of Mini Stocks.

Forty late models qualified for the Powell Memorial, with Jack Nosbisch claiming the fastest lap with a very quick 15.796. After heats and two B main events, the field was whittled down to 24 top late models, which were led by pole sitter Keith Nosbisch to the green flag. Keith Nosbich would battle for the lead with Ivedent Lloyd through the early laps, only to have an unspecified problem end his night early. Mark Whitener also battled his way into the lead group but ran into problems that sent him to the pits, and to the rear of the field. So while Lloyd was fighting off changers in the lead whitener was fighting his way through traffic to get back within striking distance of him.

Ocala's Rich Pratt also had an eventful night, although he probably chose not to remember parts of it. Pratt fought his way forward and into the top ten before he and Jason Fitzgerald had a rather abrupt meeting in turn four. that incident involved two other cars and sent Pratt to the rear, where he continued to fight despite a damaged race car. eventually managing to finish in the 12th position.

In the end Ivedent Lloyd continued his mastery of Ocala Speedway's tricky layout and fought off a determined Johnny Collins for a win. Collins made Lloyd work for it but settled for second on the night, followed by Mark Whitener who made his way back to a third place finish from dead last after problems on lap 13. Dillon Wood claimed the fourth spot while Adam Bedenbaugh placed fifth.

Twenty one Modifieds turned up the RPM’s and spent 40 laps chasing pole sitter David Foster in his first modified ride at Citrus County Speedway and became the eventual winner with his flag to flag win. It didn’t go easy for him and several cautions flags moved some of the heavy hitters to within striking distance of snatching that checkered flag away from him. Richie Smith put on plenty of heat when he moved from 4th to second on the final laps chalk up another top five finish in the division. Jeremy Gerstner locked onto Foster from the get go and was able to hold off Kyle Bookmiller who was in the hunt right to the checkered flag from his 5th starting position. Billy Bechtelheimer and Curtis Neumann put on a sided by side battle for 5th for at least 10 laps with Bechtelheimer finishing about a half car length ahead of Neumann. Point Leader Robbie Cooper moved from his 12th starting spot to finish 7th followed by Tommy Schnader, Keith Lilley and Bobby Blake who motored from 19th to finish 10th after having problems in the heat races that could have ended his night. Mathews Dominates Modifieds At Ocala Speedway
Saturday, June 13, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

ZUBER, FL..( June 12,2009)... For the first time in three weeks, Mother Nature showed mercy to Ocala Speedway and allowed the racers to finally feel the rush of hitting the clay, and a solid group of determined drivers thrilled the crowd with exciting action. Joining the three regular divisions that were scheduled were the Florida Mini Sprints, which brought a competitive field of cars to challenge Ocala's tough mystique.
Jeff Mathews and his crew somehow missed the mark on their initial set up for the races, and struggled a bit in their heat race, but by the time that the 25 lap feature rolled around Mathews had the car to beat. But a first lap blunder in turn 4 almost ended it for the 33 when he tried to pass pole sitter Jason Davis on the outside and spun, collecting Wayne Hammond who slammed into the driver's side of Mathews' car. Both drove away from that incident and Mathews returned to his original starting spot for a complete restart.
The second start went far better for Mathews, and by lap 2 he had stolen the lead and was off and running with it. With first place basically gone, everyone else had to fight for what was left and several drivers battled over second and third place. Jason Davis managed to hold onto second until a late race slip allowed Dave Barber and Wayne Hammond to leave him behind. In the end it was Jeff Mathews with a decisive victory as he pulled away from the field, followed by Dave Barber for second place. Wayne Hammond collected third place finish with Jason Davis and John Bradley finishing out the top five.

Friday, June 19th, is the scheduled make up for the 14th Annual Powell Memorial, featuring the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series. The prestigious, $5000 to win late model event had originally been scheduled for June 5th, but was washed out by a deluge from the heavens. And according to Ocala Speedway owner Mike Peters, that worked in everyone's favor as up to six more late models should be able appear on the new date that could not be there on the original date. Also on the card with the Powell Memorial will be the Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks and the Gladiators.

Anderson Tames 19 Car Citrus Late Model Field
Friday, June 12, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

(Inverness, Fl. 6/7/09) ....With an all day rain threatening to wash out the Citrus County Speedway race card fortunately somebody found the faucet and turned off the wet weather allowing for a full race card to run that included a 50 Lap Late Model feature. Despite the weather outlook the Super Lates brought some of Florida’s best to challenge the 3/8th mile oval and provided the fans with a great racing show.
Eighteen of the nineteen registered Super Late Models went on the clocks to set up the lineup for the 50 lap feature. Eight of the top ten qualifiers ran in the 13 second bracket on a green race track due to all the rain washing off any rubber that may have built up.
Wayne Anderson picked up the $200 bonus for running fast time at 13.728 just .008 of a second faster than Scott Grossenbacher who formerly held a track record. Herb Neumann, Raymond Lovelady and Dave Pletcher. The top ten pulled pills for starting positions and Kyle Maynard won the pole with Dale Sanders taking the outside pole. When the green flag flew Sanders launched his racer to the point and looked like he may have a chance to have a great finish until lap 11 when he apparently had his rear end go away on him taking him out for the night. Todd Brown took over the top spot and had everything under control until lap 26 when Herb Neumann made his way from 9th to a side by side battle for second with Scott Grossenbacher. Coming off turn four both cars got together and turned around into the infield sending both to the rear of the pack for the restart moving 8th starter Anderson and 7th starter Raymond Lovelady up to chase down the leader Todd Brown. Anderson and Lovelady made the pass on the leader and went on to finish with Anderson, Lovelady, Brown, Neumann and Rusty Ebersole rounding out the top five. The next five spots went to Donny Williams, Scott Grossenbacher, Patrick Mennenga, Dave Pletcher and Jeremy Gerstner all in the lead lap.

Jeff Mathews Victorious Again in Late Models at East Bay
Thursday, June 11, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Gibsonton,Fl. ( June 6,2009)...It was an extended night of racing for the South Shore Auto Sales Late Models as they ran their 40-lap feature sponsored by Racecar Engineering. Jimmy Waldrop had the car to beat during a long green flag run at the start of the race. On a caution about lap 20 Waldrop suffered mechanical failure and parked his machine in the infield. That opened the door for Phillip Cobb to take the lead. Cobb was leading as the laps wound down. Jeff Mathews was on the move though; he started in the 2nd position and was near the front of the field all night. Coming to the white flag Jeff Mathews went around the inside of Cobb with a strong move in turn number three and was able to hold on take the win. It was Mathews 4th win of the season. Cobb had an excellent run and wound up in 2nd spot. Jack Nosbisch started on the pole and finished 3rd. Josh Peacock challenged for the lead early and came home 4th. Ted Erskine was the hard charger of the night as he started 20th and finished 5th. David Schmauss, Christian Augspurger and Rich Kessinger all raced into the feature via the consolation race.

David Reutimann Wins Rain Shortened 50th Running of the Coca-Cola 600

Concord, NC ( May 25,2009)...He had to wait a day to do it, but David Reutimann grabbed the checkers for the 50th running of the Coca-Cola 600 under a rain delay in front of NASCAR's hometown crowd at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The race, originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed until Monday after rain wiped out on-track activities Sunday night.
Reutimann's crew chief, Rodney Childers made the call to stay out on the track instead of pitting for what turned out to be the last caution of the race. Ryan Newman and Robby Gordon also stayed out, enabling them to finish second and third respectively.
"I'm proud of the whole organization; everybody has done a great job. It was fun, but I felt like I was on pit road for a month. I wanted either the sun to come out and it quit or just pour and it just kind of stayed in between," Reutimann said in the Time Warner Media Center after the race.
There were six cautions in the race and two red flags for rain. The race was halted after lap 227, when NASCAR officials determined that conditions were too severe to continue.

This was Reutimann's first NASCAR Sprint Cup win in 75 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts.

Kurt " Happy " Taylor
Kurt " HAPPY" Taylor ,stands by sprinter in pits at East Bay

Gibsonton,Florida..(May 9,2009)..The Top Gun Sprint Car Series made its first of two scheduled appearances. With strong support from the East Bay Sprints, 23 cars set up three heats, won by point leader Ryan Partin, East Bay point leader Paulie Milum, and Frank Beck. After the field’s salute to the fans, Beck spun, costing him the pole position. On the initial start, Partin spun and went to the back. New pole sitter Shane Kreidler used his good fortune to vault out into the lead. Keith Butler, from the seventh row, moved to third, taking second on lap 4. Butler’s challenge ended with mechanical issues on lap 14, giving the runner-up spot to Kurt Taylor, who was using a borrowed top wing after his airfoil was damaged in the heat. No one had anything for Kreidler on the track, but the tech man had an issue at the scales as Kreidler turned up light. That gave the win to Taylor with Milum, series regular Mike Schroder, Tim George, and Tony Agin in the top five.

Citrus County
#15 Robbie Powell heads up the Figure 8 field on his way to Victory Lane

(Inverness, Fl. May 9, 2009) Eight local divisions and the visiting Bass Champions Challenge Series filled Citrus County Speedway’s pit area with 127 race cars and provided another action packed night with a full moon having its unusual adverse affects on the program. A very superstitious racing community proved again that the full moon definitely has some kind of mojo that seems to provide strange activity on the track.
Next Saturday night sees the return of the Open Wheel Modifieds in a non point race, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, 4 Cylinder Bombers, V8 Thunder Stocks, the Florida Pro Series and Mini Cup Series.

Shane Burrows Claims The Spring Sizzler At Ocala Speedway
Saturday, April 25, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

021Shane Burrows.jpg 019John Bradley.jpg
photos by Mean Gene - Shane Burrows above left - right John Bradley

ZUBER FL- (April 25,2009).....The last Friday of racing before the Monster Jam break offered a big money winner's purse to the Open Wheel Modified division at Ocala Speedway, and a solid field of racers entertained an excited crowd with their efforts to win. The 30 lap Spring Sizzler Race offered $1500 to the winner, and a full field of modifieds were after the cash.
Four heat races and a B main set the field for the Spring Sizzler, which began with Chris Littrell on the pole. But as the green waved there were problems deep in the field, thus leading to several restarts before the first two laps could be completed. Through that process, one car was parked for three cautions, while others sustained damage or elected to leave the track.
Things settled down somewhat later on as John Bradley held the early lead, but the 01 car of Shane Burrows was on the move forward and took the lead on lap 9. Burrows kept Bradley at bay for the remainder of the race to finish first and take home the $1500, and difficulties in tech would determine the remainder of the finishing order. John Bradley finished behind Burrows, but a problem with the post race weigh in wound up in a disqualification. In addition, the third place finisher, Kyle Owen, also ran afoul of the tech inspector.

Gibsonton, Fl..( March 28,2009)...The Gagel’s Auto Parts Open Wheel Modifieds got off to a rocky start when a red flag stopped action for a multi-car pileup in the front stretch, touched off when Wayne Hammond tagged the front stretch wall. When action resumed, early leader Buzzie Reutimann went to the bottom of the track in search of grip. He found plenty as the car rocketed off the corners. Pursuing competitors kept falling back. Shane Burrows was first to challenge, but drifted high to give Jeff Mathews his turn. Mathews made the best of it, but couldn’t catch Reutimann’s ride. In Victory Lane, Buzzie joked that he was racing under duress, driving his son David’s ride. “If I didn’t win, he was going to put me on a budget,” he said. Reutimann also owned up to an engine that was pushing the temperature gauge to 240 degrees. “What was this, 500 laps,” he joked. Mathews claimed second, ahead of heat winner Alex Boerner, double duty driver Roger Crouse and Burrows. Hammond won his heat before suffering the wreck in the finale.

Gibsonton,Fl. (March 14,2009)....A full 24-car field made up the South Shore Auto Sales Late Model 25-Lap A-Main Feature event. Names like David Schmauss, Jeff Mathews, Keith Nosbisch, Roger Crouse and Josh Peacock had everyone on the edge of their seat in anticipation of another “clash of the titans.” Nosbisch took the early lead, stretching it out to almost a 10 car-length advantage. Dirt phenom Jeff Mathews was caught in an early caution along with David Schmauss. Mathews was able to continue, and after tagging the rear of the field, burned his right-rear off to finish 5th. Schmauss was unable to continue and limped to the pits. Both Jimmy Waldrop and Doug Watson had good runs finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. Temple Terrace veteran Bobby Alexander, Sr. had steadily been making his way to the front in what appeared to be a good 2nd or 3rd place run, but as Nosbisch began to fade, the #15 car found the horsepower they needed to pick up the lead and ultimately the win for his 1st victory of the 2009 racing season. Nosbisch’s 2nd place finish along with his heat race win showed he is still strong at his home track. 2008 Late Model Rookie of the Year driver Travis Varnadore won heat race #2 and the hottest driver in Florida, Jeff Mathews won heat race #3. Al Larson, Greg Leonard and Rich Kessinger all transferred from the B-Main.

TAMPA, FL…..2/11/09….”Two weeks ago, I was at an all-time low with no ride,” were the first words that Daryn Pittman told track announcer, Larry Jewett as he repeatedly wiped his brow and pushed his hair back as he tried to let his first win for the new team sink in.
“I just wanted to be competitive and on short notice, Pete Postupack put together this team with Kevin, Brian and Jerry for us to come to Florida and put everything to the real test.”
The test results were better than expected as Pittman was able to dice through heavy traffic in the closing laps of the non-stop 30-lap finale to the 33rd Annual East Bay Raceway Park 410 Sprint Winternationals on Wednesday night worth $5,000.

The 8th Annual Ronald Laney Memorial Goes To Jesse Hockett at East Bay
Sunday, February 1, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

TAMPA, FL….1/31/09… The 8th Annual Ronald Laney Memorial race produced a first-time winner at East Bay Raceway Park Saturday night.
Jesse Hockett came to town with a brand new car and a brand new team and acted like he owned the place, taking the lead on lap eight of the 40-lap feature and driving away from the field using every groove possible on the 1/3 mile clay oval.
He was rewarded in victory lane with the “big” check for $10,000 from track owners Al Varnadore and Todd Hutto. Ronald Laney’s father Marcus was there with Ronald’s boxer dog Checkers, to present Hockett with a bonus check for $2,500. C&B Mushrooms contributed $500 to bring the winner’s total to $13,000.
Hockett became the 10th different winner in the 11 year history of the King of 360’s race with Gary Wright being the only repeat winner in the initial 1999 event and again in 2007.

Gibsonton, FL. (June 28,2008)..In the Late Models another great field of cars was on hand as 19 cars took the green flag for their 25 lap feature event. Steve Miller got an early jump on the field and led many of the early laps. Miller’s night was cut short when he and Jeff Mathews collided in turn 1 on mid race restart. JR Prather, Jr took over the lead with the exit of Miller and Mathews and would lead until he got together with Trevor Merrell in turn 4. These events opened the door for the hard charging Bobby Alexander, Sr. to take the lead and eventually the win. Alexander, Sr. was able to hold off pole sitter Travis Varnadore for his first win of the season. Alexander, Sr. started in the 19th position, shotgun on the field. Varnadore finished 2nd. Ted Erskine started 7th and finished 3rd. KD Kelley finished 4th and John Norris earned his first top 5 of the season with a 5th place finish. Prather and Varnadore won the heat races.

This web page is dedicated in loving memory of
Scott “Duke” Adler
Nov 20, 1985 – Apr 7, 2007

scott

On November 20, 1985, Gene & Edwinia Adler announced the birth of their second son, Scott Eugene Adler. He was the baby of three kids and the light of the whole family’s eye. When Scott started to talk he could not pronounce his J’s. And he loved juice but he would call it duice. At this time my father, Gene Adler ran with this…. And that’s how Scott’s name was forever changed to “Duke”.

At the very young age of 10, Scott wrote and illustrated his very own comic book. The family knew then, they had a very special child. Scott loved to draw & write. When he was just 13 years old his Nanny bought a computer. And this is when Scott’s love for computers began. He took his love of drawing and writing and applied it to the computer. He always said when he grew up he wanted to be a comic book writer. But, instead he became a web designer.

In 1999 James Adler decided to start his own racing TV show. It was originally; called Cruisin Scene TV with the Racin Roundup. The show was about, hot rods, classic cars, and racing. James knew he needed help making this show successful. He convinced his little brother, Scott Adler to join the show along with his father, Gene Adler. The show became a family affair. James put Duke in charge of the graphics and technical support. Duke took this role on with enthusiasm.

Due to the popularity of the show, James & Gene knew they had to start their own web site.

James again recruited his younger brother to help make his dream of the Racin Roundup website come true. This was a project that Scott was proud to head up. He enjoyed doing anything on a computer and helping out his family. He was a computer guru in the eyes of the Adler family. The kid knew anything and everything about computers and web design. He was in charge of updating all the information you see on this website. This website was totally designed and maintained by Duke.

When most of us can barely turn on a computer, Scott thought himself how to design web sites with no technical training. He designed not only this websites but, many others. But the Racin Roundup website was his first priority. He would brag to all his friends; about his Dad’s TV show. This was a little secret that his dad never knew.

Unlike his dad and brother, Duke didn’t not enjoy racing. He would rather be watching or designing a wrestling website. But all of that didn’t matter when it came to helping out on the show or website. He did all of this because he loved his family.

I hope you enjoy what my brother did for all the Racin Roundup fans!!

Duke will forever be loved and missed by his family & friends.

I love you always my little brother!

Love, Your Sister
