Horton Dominates for Scott Thompson Memorial Win at East Bay Thursday, May 20, 2010 | Posted by: Mean Gene
By: Larry Jewett Gibsonton,Florida..(May 15,2010).... The annual Scott Thompson Memorial presented by Airgas brought 32 Racecar Engineering Late Models to the East Bay Raceway Park pit area for the Saturday night racing action. Doug Horton of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, jumped behind the wheel of the Ken & Diane Nosbisch Late Model and went wire-to-wire to pick up the prestigious win. Horton started from outside the front row, grabbing the lead from Mark Whitener. Horton led a torrid pace, catching lapped traffic by lap 12, but a caution spared him the traffic hassle. Behind Horton, Shan Smith and Devin Dixon were locked up in a battle for second place, trying to outgun each other on restarts. Horton got back into lapped traffic by lap 23, but the caution came out again when 2009 track champion Jeff Mathews blew an engine. On lap 30, Dixon and Smith tangled on a restart, jamming the whole field and eliminating six cars from competition. Ivedent Lloyd, who had qualified through the consy after failing post-race tech after a heat win, charged into the top five from the 23rd starting spot. Lloyd’s run ended when the car stopped in turn one. On the restart, Smith slowed with a flat right rear, jamming Dixon and Philip Cobb, who kept their spots for the lap 40 restart. David Schmauss moved into the top five and Whitener slowed on the next lap for a caution. On the restart, Horton disappeared, stretching out the lead to 1/3 of the track at the checkered. Dixon crossed in second, but was too light at the scale. That gave the runner-up to Schmauss with Josh Peacock, Bryan Bernhardt and Doug Watson rounding out the top five. Whitener, Horton, Cobb and Bernhardt won heats while Alex Boerner crossed first in the consolation.
ASA sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday, May 22, 2010. Shan Smith Sets the Pace at East Bay Wednesday, May 5, 2010 | Posted by: Mean Gene
Gibsonton,Florida (5/1/2010)...With the Scott Thompson Memorial race presented by Airgas looming in two weeks, a healthy field of Racecar Engineering Late Models headlined a Saturday night card at East Bay Raceway Park. Shan Smith proved to be the class of the field, holding off the charges from Doug Watson, then Travis Varnadore to score the 25-lap main. Plenty of position battles dominated the race, which also saw plenty of yellow flags. Varnadore retained second at the finish, ahead of Bryan Bernhardt (who charged from 21st starting spot), early leader Phillip Cobb and Ted Erskine. Smith, Varnadore and Bernhardt won heats. Austin Sanders joined the crew that has scored wins in the Gagel’s Auto Parts Open Wheel Modifieds in an exciting main. Sanders led early, but point leader John Bradley was using the high side to advance. Bradley took the lead with five laps to go. Sanders tried to ease past, but wasn’t able to do so until the final set of turns in a close finish. Bradley notched a runnerup, ahead of Buzzie Reutimann, Shane Burrows and Kevin Bryant. Kyle Bronson and Reutimann set the stage with heat wins. ASA sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday, May 8, 2010. The Top Gun Sprints will pay a visit with the Gagel’s Auto Parts Open Wheel Modifieds, Precision Kia Street Stocks, motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and Dirt Daubers with a special charity race. Peacock and Schmauss Win in Racecar Engineering Late Models at East Bay Wednesday, April 28, 2010 | Posted by: Mean Gene
Gibsonton,Florida..(April 4,2010)...The Race Car Engineering Late Models and Outlaw 4 make up feature events were sandwiched into the pre intermission portion of the race program. In the Late Models Jack Nosbisch, Jr. dominated the early laps until a muffler fell of his car disqualifying him from the event. The beneficiary of that was Josh Peacock as he took the lead and held on for the win. The feature win was his 3rd of the season. Philip Cobb started 5th and finished 2nd. David Schmauss had a strong run and came home third. David Pollen and Frankie Erskine, Jr. rounded out the top-5.
The Race Car Engineering Late Models were back on the track for the second time of the evening with their 25 lap main event as twenty five cars took the green flag. David Schmauss started on the pole and lead every lap until a late restart. On the restart Bryan Bernhardt was able to gain position on Schmauss as he made the pass on the outside lane in turn 4. Berhhardt appeared to have his first feature win of the season but was declared to be too heavy in post race technical inspection. Schmauss was credited with the win. Travis Varnadore ran in the top-3 all night and finished 2nd. Roger Crouse started 6th and finished 3rd. Ted Erskine picked up his first top-5 of the season with a 4th place finish. Philip Cobb rounded out the top-5. Schmauss, T. Varnadore and David Pollen won the heats. By: Jason Loughren

Crouse Wins, But Rain Stops East Bay Monday, April 19, 2010 | Posted by: Mean Gene
Gibsonton,Fl.(April 17,2010)...Only one feature was completed for East Bay’s Saturday program before rain showers changed the plans, washing away the rest of the night. The rain arrived after six laps were completed in the Outlaw 4 class feature. The rain stopped and the track was re-prepared after 90 minutes. The cars returned to the track, but so did the rain, spelling the end to the night’s action. Before the rain came, Roger Crouse picked up his third consecutive Gagel’s Auto Parts Open Wheel Modified feature event. Crouse took the lead from John Bradley with just a few laps remaining in the 15-lap main. “I ran hard tires,” Crouse said in Victory Lane, “and he (Bradley) was on soft tires. We were able to get him in the end.” Bradley kept second and took the division point lead. Austin Sanders was third, ahead of Bobby Dixon and Alex Boerner.
ASA sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday, April 242010. The Limited Late Models will be featured with an event sponsored by Advance Auto Parts that sees an increased payout in top positions. Gibsonton,Fl...(April 10,2010)..“This one is for my dad,” were the words of Limited Late Model racer J.R. Prather Jr., who returned to Victory Lane for the first time since his father, a long time supporter of East Bay, passed away a little more than a year ago. “I tried so hard last year and this is a new year. I was thinking of dad when I crossed the line.” Prather’s win came from the outside pole of the 15-lap main. “When you’re in the position, you have to seal the deal,” he said. Prather grabbed the lead from the start to back up his heat race. Alex Boerner was thrilling the crowd with his outside runs that moved him into second place by lap 9. Boerner put the pressure on, but Prather was focused on hitting his marks. Boerner kept second as Forrest Gough rallied from an earlier spin for third. William Hampton and Daniel Woody rounded out the top five. Phillip Cobb joined Prather as a heat race winner. Roger Crouse made an outside pass on race leader Buzzie Reutimann and parlayed it to his second straight Gagel’s Auto Parts Open Wheel Modified victory. “He has a lot of experience here,” said Crouse of Reutimann. “I tried the outside and it was faster. I can’t believe I passed Buzzie Reutimann outside.” No one else passed Reutimann as he took second, ahead of John Bradley, Bobby Dixon and Austin Sanders, who started 12th in the main. Reutimann and Dixon took preliminary wins. By: Larry Jewett
Top Gun Sprints Challenge Ocala Tuesday, April 13, 2010 | Posted by: Mean Gene
Photos by R.E.Wing - Four Wide - Amanda Ferguson's first win on clay - Amanda at speed at Ocala Speedway http://www.rewingphotos.com OCALA, FL ,(April 9 ,2010).. A cool and dry night greeted the fans and racers who spent their Friday evening at Ocala Speedway, and as usual the toughest 3/8ths mile in the southeast maintained that rugged reputation. The Top Gun Sprint Car Series was in town to challenge the old race track along with three other regular racing divisions, and before the highlight event was over the crowd was literally on its feet.
Tim George led 17 of the 19 Top Gun Sprints in attendance to the green flag, but a couple of misfires in the form of spins from contact forced restarts, plus sent Ryan Partin to the rear of the field. The third time was the charm for 16 year old Amanda Ferguson, who blew past Tim George on the opening lap and opened up a huge lead by lap 4.
Things got a bit hairy on lap five as a sideways car on the front stretch collected another, and the 02 of Gene Lasker ended up flipping right in front of the grandstands and causing a red flag to be displayed. Lasker leapt from his car in dramatic fashion, demonstrating that he was alright, but the remains of his sprint car was dragged to the pit area on a hook.
After the restart Amanda Ferguson again took control of the race and never looked back, although the ending came a bit later than had been expected. The 22 of Shawn Murray, which had been flirting with the front stretch wall all night long at times, finally smacked that wall hard enough to send him spinning down the front stretch and coming to rest almost directly under the flag stand as Ferguson was coming out of the final turn. That forced a green-white-checker situation, but Amanda Ferguson was up to the challenge, going 26 laps to get the win. by Ocala Speedway Media

GARDNER DOMINATES “BUBBA ARMY SPRINT NATIONALS” OPENER AT EAST BAY RACEWAY Tuesday, February 9, 2010 | Posted by: Mean Gene
Tampa, Fla…2.8.10….Damion (The Demon) Gardner of Concord, Calif. took advantage of first-lap spins by both front-row starters Monday night and ended up leading all 30 laps of the 2010 Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series opener at East Bay Raceway Park. The “Bubba Army Sprint Nationals” continue Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the third-mile dirt oval. Gardner was slated to start fourth but a spin by rookie pole starter Ricky Williams on the first lap and a subsequent spin by outside-front row starter Shane Hmiel on the restart left Shane Cottle and Gardner lined up on the revised front row. Gardner fought off Cottle’s challenge to lead the first lap and stretched his lead in his Pace Lighting Eagle/Shaver to a full straightaway before the field bunched up under the yellow flag at lap 23. Gardner then pulled away in the closing laps to win the race over Bryan Clauson, fast qualifier Brady Short, Cottle and Jon Stanbrough. Defending series champion Levi Jones finished seventh after starting 14th. The finish left Gardner and Clauson tied for the series point lead after the opening race. The event, sponsored by the David Reutimann Foundation, put a special $1,000 on top for the main event. Wayne Hammond and Kyle Bronson won their heat races and Hammond drew a six for the inversion. That draw put Reutimann and John Bradley on the front row for the start of the event.
Bradley pulled out to the early race lead and the event ran caution-free for the first 30 laps. Bradley and Reutimann were joined by tenth-starting Jeff Mathews, who sliced down low to attempt passes. His efforts were stopped by consecutive yellow flags, but Mathews was able to get by Reutimann. Mathews set his sights on Bradley and the two made heavy contact, giving Reutimann an opportunity to get back in the hunt. He made good on it, slipping past Mathews to cross in front of the flag stand for a popular victory. Mathews kept second, ahead of a charging Devin Dixon. Bradley took fourth with a steady Bronson rounding out the top five. By: Larry Jewett

This one is in the Street Stock class "Reed vs Skinner " or the Hills , or somebody. Donny Reed has won a lot of races in the class over the years. Now the competition has picked up , " Dog eat Dog " you might say. Buck Skinner seems to want glory just as much as Reed , both racing for the same spot. Nascar calls it rubbing and bump drafting , its just good ole racing on the dirt. Who knows , I might even see a good fight , like the old days...hope I'm not in it. Mean Gene

Dirt Late Model first win for Roush Yates Saturday, July 18, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene
Lake City, FL—Roush Yates Engines celebrated their first Dirt Late Model win last Saturday night at North Florida Speedway, a medium-banked 3/8th mile clay oval at Lake City. Tampa-based driver Bobby Clark drove the car to victory in both his heat race and the A-Main event. Clark and Circle Track’s editor Rob Fisher had spent the last year rebuilding the Rayburn Dirt Late Model, replacing a 362 c.i.d. Chevy motor with a Roush Yates 358 Ford. “With redesigned chassis geometry,” Clark commented “the car handled and performed well. But the biggest improvement occurred when the team replaced the tired 362 c.i.d. Chevy motor with a fire-breathing 358 c.i.d. David Reutimann Wins Rain Shortened 50th Running of the Coca-Cola 600 Tuesday, May 26, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene
Credit: HHP Photos
Concord, NC ( May 25,2009)...He had to wait a day to do it, but David Reutimann grabbed the checkers for the 50th running of the Coca-Cola 600 under a rain delay in front of NASCAR's hometown crowd at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The race, originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed until Monday after rain wiped out on-track activities Sunday night. Reutimann's crew chief, Rodney Childers made the call to stay out on the track instead of pitting for what turned out to be the last caution of the race. Ryan Newman and Robby Gordon also stayed out, enabling them to finish second and third respectively. "I'm proud of the whole organization; everybody has done a great job. It was fun, but I felt like I was on pit road for a month. I wanted either the sun to come out and it quit or just pour and it just kind of stayed in between," Reutimann said in the Time Warner Media Center after the race. There were six cautions in the race and two red flags for rain. The race was halted after lap 227, when NASCAR officials determined that conditions were too severe to continue.
This was Reutimann's first NASCAR Sprint Cup win in 75 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts. Lowe's Motor Speedway Link Below : http://www.lowesmotorspeedway.com/

Kurt " HAPPY" Taylor ,stands by sprinter in pits at East Bay - photo by Mean Gene Adler
Gibsonton,Florida..(May 9,2009)..The Top Gun Sprint Car Series made its first of two scheduled appearances. With strong support from the East Bay Sprints, 23 cars set up three heats, won by point leader Ryan Partin, East Bay point leader Paulie Milum, and Frank Beck. After the field’s salute to the fans, Beck spun, costing him the pole position. On the initial start, Partin spun and went to the back. New pole sitter Shane Kreidler used his good fortune to vault out into the lead. Keith Butler, from the seventh row, moved to third, taking second on lap 4. Butler’s challenge ended with mechanical issues on lap 14, giving the runner-up spot to Kurt Taylor, who was using a borrowed top wing after his airfoil was damaged in the heat. No one had anything for Kreidler on the track, but the tech man had an issue at the scales as Kreidler turned up light. That gave the win to Taylor with Milum, series regular Mike Schroder, Tim George, and Tony Agin in the top five. #15 Robbie Powell heads up the Figure 8 field on his way to Victory Lane
(Inverness, Fl. May 9, 2009) Eight local divisions and the visiting Bass Champions Challenge Series filled Citrus County Speedway’s pit area with 127 race cars and provided another action packed night with a full moon having its unusual adverse affects on the program. A very superstitious racing community proved again that the full moon definitely has some kind of mojo that seems to provide strange activity on the track. Next Saturday night sees the return of the Open Wheel Modifieds in a non point race, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, 4 Cylinder Bombers, V8 Thunder Stocks, the Florida Pro Series and Mini Cup Series. for more on story and race results from Citrus County Speedway go to link below: - Larry MacMillans Race Reports from CITRUS COUNTY SPEEDWAY
Shane Burrows Claims The Spring Sizzler At Ocala Speedway Saturday, April 25, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene
photos by Mean Gene - Shane Burrows above left - right John Bradley
ZUBER FL- (April 25,2009).....The last Friday of racing before the Monster Jam break offered a big money winner's purse to the Open Wheel Modified division at Ocala Speedway, and a solid field of racers entertained an excited crowd with their efforts to win. The 30 lap Spring Sizzler Race offered $1500 to the winner, and a full field of modifieds were after the cash. Four heat races and a B main set the field for the Spring Sizzler, which began with Chris Littrell on the pole. But as the green waved there were problems deep in the field, thus leading to several restarts before the first two laps could be completed. Through that process, one car was parked for three cautions, while others sustained damage or elected to leave the track. Things settled down somewhat later on as John Bradley held the early lead, but the 01 car of Shane Burrows was on the move forward and took the lead on lap 9. Burrows kept Bradley at bay for the remainder of the race to finish first and take home the $1500, and difficulties in tech would determine the remainder of the finishing order. John Bradley finished behind Burrows, but a problem with the post race weigh in wound up in a disqualification. In addition, the third place finisher, Kyle Owen, also ran afoul of the tech inspector. story by BJ Cavin for more results go to links below : http://www.ocalaspeedway.com/ http://disc.yourwebapps.com/discussion.cgi?disc=216473;article=9383;title=Racin%20Roundup%20TV

Gibsonton, Fl..( March 28,2009)...The Gagel’s Auto Parts Open Wheel Modifieds got off to a rocky start when a red flag stopped action for a multi-car pileup in the front stretch, touched off when Wayne Hammond tagged the front stretch wall. When action resumed, early leader Buzzie Reutimann went to the bottom of the track in search of grip. He found plenty as the car rocketed off the corners. Pursuing competitors kept falling back. Shane Burrows was first to challenge, but drifted high to give Jeff Mathews his turn. Mathews made the best of it, but couldn’t catch Reutimann’s ride. In Victory Lane, Buzzie joked that he was racing under duress, driving his son David’s ride. “If I didn’t win, he was going to put me on a budget,” he said. Reutimann also owned up to an engine that was pushing the temperature gauge to 240 degrees. “What was this, 500 laps,” he joked. Mathews claimed second, ahead of heat winner Alex Boerner, double duty driver Roger Crouse and Burrows. Hammond won his heat before suffering the wreck in the finale. By Larry Jewett

Gibsonton,Fl. (March 14,2009)....A full 24-car field made up the South Shore Auto Sales Late Model 25-Lap A-Main Feature event. Names like David Schmauss, Jeff Mathews, Keith Nosbisch, Roger Crouse and Josh Peacock had everyone on the edge of their seat in anticipation of another “clash of the titans.” Nosbisch took the early lead, stretching it out to almost a 10 car-length advantage. Dirt phenom Jeff Mathews was caught in an early caution along with David Schmauss. Mathews was able to continue, and after tagging the rear of the field, burned his right-rear off to finish 5th. Schmauss was unable to continue and limped to the pits. Both Jimmy Waldrop and Doug Watson had good runs finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. Temple Terrace veteran Bobby Alexander, Sr. had steadily been making his way to the front in what appeared to be a good 2nd or 3rd place run, but as Nosbisch began to fade, the #15 car found the horsepower they needed to pick up the lead and ultimately the win for his 1st victory of the 2009 racing season. Nosbisch’s 2nd place finish along with his heat race win showed he is still strong at his home track. 2008 Late Model Rookie of the Year driver Travis Varnadore won heat race #2 and the hottest driver in Florida, Jeff Mathews won heat race #3. Al Larson, Greg Leonard and Rich Kessinger all transferred from the B-Main. for more on this story and race results go to links below : Alexander, Sr. Still Strong at “The Clay by the Bay” http://www.eastbayracewaypark.com/

Steve Miller got an early jump on the field and led many of the early laps. Miller’s night was cut short when he and Jeff Mathews collided in turn 1 on mid race restart. These events opened the door for the hard charging Bobby Alexander, Sr. to take the lead and eventually the win. Alexander, Sr. was able to hold off pole sitter Travis Varnadore for his first win of the season. Alexander, Sr. started in the 19th position, shotgun on the field. Varnadore finished 2nd. This web page is dedicated in loving memory of Scott “Duke” Adler Thursday, May 10, 2007 | Posted by: Mean Gene
This web page is dedicated in loving memory of Scott “Duke” Adler Nov 20, 1985 – Apr 7, 2007
On November 20, 1985, Gene & Edwinia Adler announced the birth of their second son, Scott Eugene Adler. He was the baby of three kids and the light of the whole family’s eye. When Scott started to talk he could not pronounce his J’s. And he loved juice but he would call it duice. At this time my father, Gene Adler ran with this…. And that’s how Scott’s name was forever changed to “Duke”.
At the very young age of 10, Scott wrote and illustrated his very own comic book. The family knew then, they had a very special child. Scott loved to draw & write. When he was just 13 years old his Nanny bought a computer. And this is when Scott’s love for computers began. He took his love of drawing and writing and applied it to the computer. He always said when he grew up he wanted to be a comic book writer. But, instead he became a web designer.
In 1999 James Adler decided to start his own racing TV show. It was originally; called Cruisin Scene TV with the Racin Roundup. The show was about, hot rods, classic cars, and racing. James knew he needed help making this show successful. He convinced his little brother, Scott Adler to join the show along with his father, Gene Adler. The show became a family affair. James put Duke in charge of the graphics and technical support. Duke took this role on with enthusiasm.
Due to the popularity of the show, James & Gene knew they had to start their own web site.
James again recruited his younger brother to help make his dream of the Racin Roundup website come true. This was a project that Scott was proud to head up. He enjoyed doing anything on a computer and helping out his family. He was a computer guru in the eyes of the Adler family. The kid knew anything and everything about computers and web design. He was in charge of updating all the information you see on this website. This website was totally designed and maintained by Duke.
When most of us can barely turn on a computer, Scott thought himself how to design web sites with no technical training. He designed not only this websites but, many others. But the Racin Roundup website was his first priority. He would brag to all his friends; about his Dad’s TV show. This was a little secret that his dad never knew.
Unlike his dad and brother, Duke didn’t not enjoy racing. He would rather be watching or designing a wrestling website. But all of that didn’t matter when it came to helping out on the show or website. He did all of this because he loved his family.
I hope you enjoy what my brother did for all the Racin Roundup fans!!
Duke will forever be loved and missed by his family & friends.
I love you always my little brother!
Love, Your Sister
